“Do the right thing in all cases, at all times, no matter what.”

Brian has devoted his career to pursuing justice and serving his community.

Brian was born in a military hospital in Germany, where his parents were stationed in the United States Air Force. They returned to Colorado when he was two years old and he grew up in Aurora with his twin brother, Jeff.

Later on, his family moved across town to Littleton and he graduated from Heritage High School. Brian attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and earned a degree in political science.

After college, he moved to Washington, DC, where he served as an aide in the White House during the last three years of the Clinton Administration. Following his service in the Clinton White House, Brian worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant, press secretary and chief of staff to a senior member of Congress.

Brian then received a prestigious fellowship from the Robert Bosch Foundation to work as an American Fellow in the German Foreign Ministry and the German Parliament in Berlin, Germany.

Although he loved working on federal policy at the White House and the United States Congress, Brian moved home to Colorado because he wanted to make a concrete difference in his own community. Brian attended the University of Colorado Law School, where he earned his law degree and served as campus leader.

In 2006, then-District Attorney Don Quick recruited Brian to join the District Attorney’s Office as a deputy district attorney and he has worked there ever since.  Brian was elected District Attorney for Adams and Broomfield Counties in November of 2020 and took office in January of 2021.

As District Attorney, Brian has prioritized the prosecution of violent crime, domestic violence crimes, human trafficking and motor vehicle theft.  He created a Special Victims Unit to focus exclusively on domestic violence crimes, sexual assaults and human trafficking and created a Domestic Violence High Risk Team to improve services to victims of domestic violence across the community.  Brian has become a national leader in the fight against fentanyl and has brought attention to the mental health crisis within the criminal justice system.  Brian has expanded the Diversion Program and actively invests in programs to keep people out of the criminal justice system altogether.

During his more than 17 years at the DA’s office, Brian has personally prosecuted thousands of cases, including over 100 jury trials, and has helped bring justice to victims of crime from all over our community.

Brian runs the District Attorney’s Office with the following motto:  Do the right thing – in all cases – no matter what.  He has built a team of professionals there who are deeply committed to the highest standards of ethics and excellence.

Brian and his wife, Fernanda, love Adams and Broomfield counties and are proud to be raising their family here.
